8/3/10 - National Night Out - A Crime Prevention Emphasis

Soroptimist of Port Orchard participated in the first annual National Night Out downtown on the Port Orchard waterfront.  We gave out free popcorn and stickered every who received a bag with out "Stop The Trafficking, Stop the Tears" Purple Teardrop Campaign sticker.  It was a great event with lots of positive response from people who visited our booth.  We will be looking foward to next year's event!

On 10/26/09, the Port Orchard, Gig Harbor and Bremerton Soroptimist Clubs presented the YWCA with a Pillow Fight Shower for the Alive Shelter.  Click here for photos

The following poem was attached to each pillow to be given to women of domestic violence.

Pillow Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep

On a new pillow that’s mine to keep

And when I dream tonight

I pray that everything will be all right

I know people do genuinely care

About my safety and are willing to share

May the God above

Keep me in His love.

In August 2009, SIPO was in charge of decorating the main stage for Cedar Cove Days, in recognition of Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove Series with the release of book #9 during that week. Click here for photos. Many thanks to the SIPO members for the work on the stage, and to Helene Jensen for the beautifully done banner.
